Guitar Parts – The Basic Construction of a Guitar
Though you may not be aware but history of modern guitar actually dates back to about 4000 years. It has today evolved into 6 string instrument in past many centuries and is today being played by people across various cultures around the world.
For all those people who are interested in learning this musical instrument, it is essential to first know its construction and individual parts that combine to provide you great music.
Top Portion
The top portion of the guitar is called headstock and is used for changing the pitch. It has portions that can be easily twisted to achieve this. The nuts used for twisting are made from various materials like plastic, bone, ivory and so on.
Neck
The neck of a guitar consists of nut, headstock, truss rod, inlays and frets. Different kinds of notes and voices are generated using frets. A truss rod holds the strings of the guitar near its top end. The tension on the string greatly impacts the sound that is generated from it.
The Strings
The strings of the guitar are gripped using truss rod and bridge. The truss rod controls the tension and a bridge shifts the vibrations in the string to sound board for amplification. There are six strings in a standard guitar. Such strings are classified as per their weight. Different weights generate different sounds when they are picked or strummed.
Visual Accent
The guitar inlay is just for visual aesthetics and usually comes in hundred of designs. Some of the favorite designs are flowers, diamonds, patterns and dots. Sometimes, such inlay can also be customized as per personal preferences.
The Guitar Body
The body of guitar determines the type of sound that is generated when playing an instrument. The variation in sound mainly occurs due to variation in the wood quality that is used for making the body of guitar.
